LED transparent screen in the field of architectural media

What is architectural media? When we think of buildings as information carriers, that is. With the development of LED photoelectric technology, architectural media technology has come a long way. In recent years, it has been widely used in the market, but not without problems. After painstaking and tedious attempts to come up with various solutions, especially in the application of glass curtain walls. This has resulted in a new type of ultra-transparent LED screen. With ultra-transparent and ultra-light qualities, it has obvious advantages in the field of architectural media.

I. Background

Tall buildings in cities have become creative carriers for outdoor advertising. People use LED, laser, projectors and other technologies to try to turn the whole building into a three-dimensional photoelectric advertising carrier. This technology is called architectural media and has become very popular in recent years. At the same time, we also realize that glass walls make up the majority of modern buildings, especially in new buildings, but how to make these glass wall buildings become architectural media and give full play to their commercial value? It is still a popular technical topic. Three issues need to be addressed.

(1) Try to avoid damaging the appearance and structure of the glass curtain wall

(2) Maintain the permeability of the glass wall as much as possible

(3) Maximize the expressive power of architectural media

II. Existing technologies

In order to solve the described problems, various solutions have appeared in the market.

2.1 LED pixel lights, parapet tubes

The use of LED pixel lights and parapet tubes to illuminate buildings is a common technology. They are always installed in the shape of the building or in the unit joints of the glass curtain wall. This type of installation is low cost, easy to install and control, but only achieves average performance. Although we fill all the façade with LED pixel lights and parapet tubes, the building can only display some simple patterns and text messages, far from the ideal performance.

2.2 Box-type LED screen

The box-type LED screen has a higher resolution. If we install box type LED screen on the facade, we can get a very clear visual effect. However, the volume is very large (40-70kg/㎡), need to design an extra steel frame structure to install, high cost and high load-bearing on the external wall. At the same time, it does not transmit light, so the glass curtain wall loses its lighting function. LED glass curtain wall screen looks like a black wall when there is no electricity, which greatly affects the appearance of the building.

2.3 Grid LED screen

Grid LED screen has a certain degree of permeability, to ensure that the glass curtain wall has about 40% of the concentrated light transmission effect, while it can be installed in a large area. But it also has defects - the resolution is very low. The pixel pitch is above 40mm, sometimes it has to reach 60mm-100mm to ensure a certain degree of transmittance, so its screen can not achieve a clear image display effect. At the same time, it has high requirements for construction and maintenance when installed in large outdoor areas, and it is expensive. The building must consider the load-bearing, installation and maintenance of the screen at the beginning of the design.

2.4 Projection

We also use projectors to reflect images onto the wall. However, it is known that the illumination level of existing projectors is still very low and the bulbs are expensive and have a short life span. Also, projectors are not widely available and therefore not widely used in architectural media. There is no need to elaborate here.

III, Ultra-Transparent Led Screen

With 70%-95% transparency, the panel thickness is only 10mm, so the LED unit panel can be installed from behind the glass and perfectly integrated with the glass. The unit size can be customized according to the glass size with minimal impact on the light gathering and transmittance of the glass wall. It is also easy to install and maintain. With these advantages, ultra-transparent LED screens are well suited for the architectural media sector.

This design greatly reduces the obstruction of view by structural units while greatly increasing the permeability of the glass wall. When the viewer is standing in an ideal position, the ultra-transparent LED screen creates a special display effect - to the viewer, the image seems to float on the glass wall. If advertising is displayed on the ultra-transparent LED screen, the unnecessary background color can be removed and the color that does not emit light when the ultra-transparent LED screen is played is changed to a darker color as if it disappears so that the screen displays only what is needed. This way of playing can greatly reduce light pollution and energy consumption, more than 30% lower than ordinary LED screens.

Advantages and outstanding features of the new ultra-translucent LED screen

(1) High light transmission, to ensure the lighting requirements and field of view between the floor, glass façade, windows and other lighting structures. Thus, the original light gathering and permeability of the glass wall are maintained.

(2) No room. The thickness of the main board is only 10mm, and the weight of the screen is 12Kg/㎡, which can be adapted to the newly launched super transparent LED screen without changing the building structure.

(3) No steel frame structure is needed, which can save a lot of installation and maintenance costs. The new ultra-transparent LED screen can be maintained indoors, which is very convenient.

(4) Unique display effect. As the background is transparent, the screen is like floating on the glass wall, which has a good advertising and artistic effect.

Project example: In 2012, a large water curtain moonlight stage with a glass curtain wall screen was built around the new square of Huaqing Hot Spring Scenic Area in Xi'an Lintong. As the back of the square is a large shopping mall, it acts as a stage set at night when the LED screen displays video images, but the whole LED screen is required to be transparent during the day. The new ultra-transparent LED screen meets all the requirements. With the water screen, sound and other technology products on display, the live effect was stunning.

IV, the market potential

We all agree that the new ultra-transparent LED screen opens up new fields and has a broad market prospect, especially in the field of architectural media. It is estimated that the total installed area of modern glass curtain walls in China has exceeded 700,000 square meters, mainly concentrated in urban areas. It can be used in cities, airports, car 4s stores, hotels banks, chain stores and other representative buildings. The huge demand for new ultra-transparent LED screens is a potential market for outdoor media advertising. With the depletion of outdoor media advertising resources, the newly launched ultra-transparent LED screen will certainly be promising.
